Mary Mincer Hansen, RN, PhD, is an adjunct professor in the College of Health Sciences Masters in Public Health Program and the College of Medicine and Surgery’s Global Health Department at Des Moines University where she was the past Chair of the Masters of Public Health program. Dr Mincer Hansen was previously appointed Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health in the cabinet of Governor Vilsack. She has served in many national positions including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Advisory Committee for Partners Investing in Nursing’s Future, President of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), member of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Public Health Strategies to Improve Health, and as an advisor on the Institute for Alternative Future’s Project - Public Health 2030. She was one of the co-authors of the Iowa Climate Statement 2014: Impacts on the Health of Iowans and chaired the Advisory Board of the Healthy And Well Kids In Iowa (HAWK-I) Program. She currently serves on the Iowa Department of Public Health’s Advisory Council, co-chairs the Health Sub-committee of the Des Moines WHO Age Friendly City initiative and is a member of the Blank Park Zoo Conservation Committee.
